Open Sundays Starting November 10

Updated: Nov 4

Friends,

Thank you for helping us have the most incredible opening day and weeks. It means the world to us that so many of our neighbors are excited to have a bookstore—and this one in particular—nearby. We both live in the neighborhood, and we hoped there would be other people around who wanted the same kind of store we did, but it’s such a thrill (and frankly, relief) to be proven right. We can’t wait to meet more of you in person in the days and weeks to come.

In fact, we’re soon going to create more opportunities for that to happen. Beginning November 10, we’ll be open on Sundays! Please note that November 10 is not this Sunday. It’s the next one. But after that, we’ll always be open on Sundays (with rare exceptions we will tell you about in this space). Yay!

We still (always) need books!

A lot of you have asked if we’re still taking books now that we’re open. Yes! Now more than ever! Before we opened, we spent most of every weekend scouting books all over Northern Illinois and parts of Wisconsin. Now that we have a store to run, we’ll need ongoing help keeping our stock fresh.

See below for a selection of books our incredible customers have already traded us for store credit, or stop in to get the best possible sense of what we’re into. Right now, we’re really interested in seeing:

  • Sci-fi and Fantasy

  • Chicago History/Chicago interest

  • General History — especially unusual and overlooked stories

  • Art

As always, please email used@jarvissquarebooks.com to make an appointment to bring your books in. Thanks a million to those who already have!

Some cool new books that arrived recently:

New titles by the very local Meekling Press, $17-$20

The Taiga Syndrome by Cristina Rivera Garza, $16.95

At this writing, we have all of the above in stock, but also, the links above go to our Bookshop.org page, where you can order nearly any new book you like while supporting Jarvis Square Books.

Some cool used (which means they’re here until they’re gone) books our amazing customers traded us for store credit:

R.I.P. Best of 1985-2004, by Thomas Ott, $25

A bunch of beautiful titles from Archipelago Books, $5-$10

Buck Studies, by Douglas Kearney, $6

Eleanor & Hick: The Love Affair that Shaped a First Lady, by Susan Quinn, $6

Hopscotch, by Julio Cortázar, $7

Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls, by T. Kira Madden, $6

The Complete Works : Handbook, Discourses, and Fragments - by Epictetus, $6

And so many more! If you haven’t been here since our first week, there are hundreds of new books to check out.

See you soon!

Kate & Michael
